All classes at Malandra's
Martial Arts Center combine traditional martial arts training with super
fun speed, strength and agility drills and exercises. As a result, our
students improve their overall conditioning and become better athletes
in various school-related sports. Below are more specific descriptions
about each of our programs, categorized by age and ability level.
Kinder Karate Program
(4 to 6 years of age)
This class is specifically designed for children ages 4 to 6 years of
age. Here our Kinder Karate students will get their first introduction
to martial arts training and discover for themselves how much fun it is!
Our Kinder Karate students will learn the basic fundamentals of training
in a fun, safe, and relaxed environment. Various stances, blocks,
punches, and kicks will be taught and reinforced through the use of
martial arts activities, games, and drills appropriate for this age
group.
Children's Program (7 to 16 years of age)
Beginner/Intermediate Level: Students are introduced and taught
the basic stances, strikes, blocks, and kicks from lead and full
positions. The proficiency of these skills are strongly emphasized and
reinforced because they serve as the foundation from which all advanced
techniques develop. As students progress in rank, they learn basic and
intermediate forms (kata), various judo throws, grappling and
self-defense techniques appropriate to their level.
Advanced Level:
Students in our advanced level class build upon skills mastered at the
beginner/intermediate level. The main emphasis is precision, proper
application of various techniques, transitory motion, footwork, and
flow. Advanced self-defense, grappling, controlling techniques, judo
throws and sparring are taught according to the levels of each student.
Adult Program (17
years of age and up)
Beginner/Intermediate Level: The focus of the adult curriculum is
to train our students to defend themselves in almost any given
situation. Utilizing our own system of Mushin Do, developed by Donald
Malandra, Michael Malandra, and Lester Rudnick, we teach our students
practical techniques that have been proven effective in controlling or
stopping an opponent. Everyone works at their own pace. Our programs are
designed to build confidence, self-esteem, confidence, reduce stress,
and increase one's overall health and fitness level. Helping our
students realize their greatest potential both physically and mentally
is our ultimate goal!
Advanced Level:
When students progress to the advanced level, they begin to react
instinctively. Proficiency and proper application of technique are
constantly being reinforced at this stage. While the main emphasis is
still self-defense, more complex techniques and concepts are introduced
which include: advanced judo throws, grappling techniques, and the use
of arm bars, wrist locks, trigger and pressure points.
